Power outages & storm safety

Outages happen, and when they do, SRP immediately gets to work restoring power. Learn what you can do to stay safe and in the know.

Experiencing an outage? View or report an outage in our outage map, which shows areas that are currently without power, the number of customers affected, estimated restoration times and your neighborhood’s outage history.

You can also call us at (602) 236-8888. We’re here to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Ensure you're signed up for alerts

Stay safe with timely text or email alerts that inform you of:

  • Power outages at your home or in your neighborhood
  • The cause of an electrical outage
  • Estimated restoration times
  • When power has been restored

SRP customers with a mobile number or email on file are automatically enrolled in outage alerts. If you’re not enrolled, activate alerts by logging into SRP My Account and selecting “Outage eNotes” (just below “Manage eNotes”).

Allow SRP crews safe access to equipment

SRP electrical equipment is often located on the property of homeowners and can either be visible or buried underground. In order to maintain the grid and restore power to customers quickly during an outage, SRP crew members need access to this equipment for repairs and maintenance.

While we do our very best to inform customers in advance, our crews may need immediate access during emergencies, storm-related damages and outages, or planned maintenance.

Verify that crew members are from SRP

We want you to feel safe and secure with legitimate SRP personnel working around your home. Here are a few ways to verify that someone is one of our crew members.

SRP personnel:

Always wear SRP branded shirts

Always carry SRP identification badges

Always drive SRP-branded trucks

SRP employees will never ask to enter your home. If you feel unsure about a crew member’s identity, give us a call at (602) 236-8888 to verify.

Why do outages happen?

Outages happen when equipment or power lines are damaged in weather or accidents. Power can also go out when items such as tree branches, umbrellas, trampolines and even Mylar (metallic) balloons are blown into power lines.

How to determine if you’re experiencing an outage or an electrical problem

One of the easiest ways to tell if you're experiencing a power outage versus an electrical problem is to look beyond your own walls.

If your breakers are tripped or your neighbors have power, the problem is likely inside your property, and you may need to call a qualified electrician.

If your breakers are on and your neighbors lack power or the streetlights are dark, call SRP at (602) 236-8888 to report the outage and ensure you are signed up for outage alerts to receive power restoration updates.

How to prepare for an outage

The best way to handle an outage is to be ready before one happens.

  • Make sure you are signed up for outage alerts.
  • Keep important numbers handy.
  • Prepare a first aid kit that includes your family’s prescription medications.
  • Keep a backup supply of items for infants and elderly and disabled family members.
  • Keep flashlights in handy locations along with a supply of fresh batteries.
  • Install surge protectors to safeguard electronics.
  • Download the SRP Power app™ to report and view outages.

Planned outages and power line maintenance

At SRP, we take power reliability seriously, which is why we conduct planned outages for routine inspections and system maintenance. By turning off the power during these times, it ensures the safety of our employees.

We do our best to minimize interruptions, but with more people working from home than ever before, it can be difficult to pick the best time of day. We always notify our customers before planned outages, and we minimize downtime as much as possible. To stay in the know, sign up for outage alerts with SRP eNotes™.
