What is a smart irrigation controller?
Smart irrigation controllers automatically tailor watering schedules and run times on sprinklers or drip systems to meet specific landscape needs. These systems use weather information or site conditions to determine how much water to apply and when to run. Once the smart controllers is installed and set, little additional monitoring is required.

How much water can a smart controller save?
Studies show most smart controllers will save about 25% of the water applied by a traditional controller. In the Valley, up to 70% of household water use is outdoors.

Can I install it myself or do I need a landscape professional?
Smart irrigation controllers vary in their complexity. Installation requires some basic electrical knowledge and can be accomplished by most homeowners in approximately three hours. The Rain Bird website provides free comprehensive training. SRP will provide a list of licensed landscape professionals who can perform the installation.

Will training be provided on how to install and program these controllers?
Rain Bird representatives will be offering classes at the expo to explain controller features and provide guidance on installation and programming.

Why was this smart irrigation controller model selected?
The Rain Bird ESP-SMT4 weather-based irrigation controllers has been tested by the Irrigation Association's Smart Water Application Technologies (SWAT) team. Additionally, this model has the Extra Simple Programming (ESP) features to save valuable time, money, and water.

How many stations can the selected smart irrigation controller model support?
The model is a four-station controller and easily expandable to 13 stations. Expansion modules may be purchased separately.

If I attended the expo on March 3 but did not purchase the controller is there a way for me to get the controller at a discounted price after the event?
If you picked up a valid rebate voucher at the expo, you may purchase the controller at Ewing locations for the discounted price. The purchase must be completed by March 31, 2012.
