Protecting your home from the heat
Whether you shut off your cooling system while you are away for a long period
depends on how well your home is insulated. If you do shut it off, or just turn the
thermostat to a higher temperature setting, it's a good idea to remove heat-sensitive
items such as candles, pianos and some photo albums. Then, leave buckets of water
throughout the house to help prevent the walls and wood furniture from drying out.
If you decide to turn the system off, switch off the main circuit breaker at the service
panel so no electricity will be used.
