Electric Meter Tags
If you are moving into a building that has not had prior electric service, you must
identify each meter with a tag on the meter panel or can. The tag must show the
suite or unit number the meter serves before service can be started. A tag also is
required any time a new meter is added to an existing service address. Addresses
must match what is listed on the municipal clearance and cannot be arbitrarily changed.
-
Tags must be metal (aluminum, brass or other approved non-ferrous metal),
with -inch-minimum letters. It must show the suite or unit number in numerals,
not letters (for example, Suite 2, not Suite B.)
-
Wording may be impressed or raised, and the impression should be deep enough to
be readable through paint.
-
The tag must be riveted to the meter panel with a rivet in each end of the tag.
-
If the main breakers are not installed directly to the meters, both the meter and
the main breaker must have separate tags.
