Questions about power outages

What should I do if my power is out for more than an hour?

SRP customers may call (602) 236-8811 to report an outage 24 hours a day. If possible, let us know if others in your area are without power. Please have your account number handy. We will provide you with as much information as possible about the outage.

If all your neighbors have service, and you don't, you might have an isolated electrical problem in your home or business. An SRP troubleshooter can help you identify the problem, but you will need a professional electrician to help you fix the situation.

Neighborhood outages

How can electricity to one group of homes be out while homes on the next street or down the block still have electricity?

Neighboring homes and businesses can be on different circuits. A circuit can serve up to 2,000 customers. Circuits don't necessarily align with streets, neighborhoods or community boundaries. One street or neighborhood block may be served by two different circuits.

A circuit is an overhead or underground electrical line that supplies power to a combination of residential and/or business customers within a given geographical area. Each circuit comprises about 5 megawatts of electricity usage, and generally serves about 800 to 2,000 customer accounts.

Safety

How can people stay safe during outages?

Stay calm and stay put. Don't drive unless absolutely necessary. Plan ahead and practice these safety tips. If at home, look out for your neighbors, especially those who are elderly or disabled. Make sure all appliances and machinery are off. Keep one light on to indicate if the power is restored.
