Experience convenience
According to surveys, 84% of M-Power customers report being very satisfied with the program and more than 90% believe they use energy more wisely as a result of being on the program.
Participants point out convenience attracted them to the pay-as-you-go M-Power program. With over 50 SRP PayCenter® locations at grocery and convenience stores across the Valley, refilling the prepaid electricity card is easy, especially with 24-7 availability at multiple locations. PayCenters accept either cash or payments using e-Chex.
Save energy
Being able to monitor energy use is a big plus for M-Power participants. Customers can make simple changes around their household that produce visible energy savings.
By looking at the display screen on the in-home display, you can actually see a change in your costs when you turn out unnecessary lights or adjust your thermostat. And, with today's increased emphasis on helping the environment, you can do your part when you reduce your electric consumption. In fact, studies indicate that M-Power customers are, on average, reducing their annual consumption by 12.8%.

How M-Power works
A special M-Power in-home display is plugged into an ordinary electrical socket to communicate directly with the electric meter. The display keeps track of how much energy an M-Power customer is using in simple dollars and cents, and signals when it's time to make a new purchase.
You can also view the cost of your energy use today and yesterday. You know how much credit is remaining, and how many days the credit will last, based on your current usage. Check your usage in the comfort of your home. View this video to see how to use the M-Power display unit (1.54 MB WMV).*
To make electricity purchases, an M-Power customer receives two "Smart Cards" similar to telephone calling cards. The cards are credited with electricity purchases at SRP PayCenters located in grocery and convenience stores, as well as SRP offices, around the Phoenix metropolitan area.
At home, the customer runs the card with energy credit through the display, which sends the information to the meter.
"Friendly Credit" keeps power on after hours
To make sure a customer is not caught without power after SRP business hours, SRP instituted "Friendly Credit" at night and during weekends and holidays. This feature allows the meter to extend credit rather than disconnect a customer who might have exhausted the credits on their Smart Cards.
While on Friendly Credit, the display keeps track of the amount of energy use. When a customer inserts a Smart Card with energy credit, the display will subtract the energy used during the Friendly Credit period. Then, the remaining credit will load and the current use will be deducted from that total.
Avoid fees and charges
Many typical fees and charges for traditional electrical service do not apply to the M-Power program. There's no late payment fees ($4.45 or 2% of the unpaid amount plus tax) or regular reconnect fees of up to $85, which can add up to significant costs. M-Power customers, who run out of energy credits, can get back in power with as little as $1.
Sometimes, things happen and customers may get behind on their electric bill. Enrolling in M-Power offers those customers the opportunity to pay off unpaid amounts over time with a percentage of every purchase going to the previous balance.
Join the most successful prepayment program
Nearly 15 years ago, SRP launched its prepayment program for residential customers. Today, SRP M-Power is the largest residential prepay metering program in North America.
