As the Diamondbacks score, we plant trees
At SRP, we take the environment seriously. The Arizona Diamondbacks take scoring runs seriously. So we decided to get together and see what we could do to help each other.
All season, SRP, in sponsorship with Fox Sports Arizona, will plant 10 trees every time the Diamondbacks score one run. And from the looks of things, it's going to be a pretty productive season.
Totals so far
- April - 161 runs = 1,610 trees
- May - 117 runs = 1,170 trees
- June - 90 runs = 900 trees
- July - 119 runs = 1190 trees
Be a part of Trees for Change
It's all through Trees for Change, an SRP
EarthWise program in partnership with the U.S.
Forest Service.
Simply sign up with an additional
$3 to your monthly bill. Then, SRP will
match each dollar customers contribute up to
$160,000, with 100% of the funds going
to planting trees in
the Apache-Sitgreaves
National Forest in
Overgaard. This is an
area destroyed in the Rodeo-Chedeski fires of 2002
which burned across 7.2 million acres.
A $3 monthly contribution, plus the
SRP match will plant 72 trees per year. During their
lifetime, these trees will remove
carbon dioxide from the air, store carbon in plant
tissues, and produce oxygen, thereby helping to
decrease the impacts of global warming. After 30
years, the 72 trees
will have sequestered enough carbon dioxide to
offset the annual electricity usage of 26 households.
