Recycle the extra fridge — earn $30

You can help both your pocketbook and our planet by parting with a second freezer or refrigerator in your home.

Refrigerators are the third largest household energy users, behind cooling systems and water heaters. Approximately 13% of SRP customers have two or more refrigerators and nearly 23% of homes have one or more stand-alone freezers. Many of these are older, inefficient models toiling away in hot garages, using a significant amount of electricity and boosting monthly energy bills.

Save energy and the environment

SRP has a powerwise idea for you — our Appliance Recycling Program. We will pick up your extra working fridge or freezer for free, pay you $30 and recycle the appliance. In addition to the $30, you can:

• Save up to $100 annually on energy costs by not running the second fridge or freezer
• Keep reusable items out of landfills.
• Reduce greenhouse gases by as much as 10 tons.

Through this program, approximately 95% of each refrigerator is recycled, including metals, glass, polyurethane foam insulation, oil and refrigerant. The emission reduction is equivalent to not driving two family cars for a year.
