What is EarthWise Energy?
EarthWise Energy is a more environmentally friendly way to produce energy. EarthWise Energy helps keep our
Valley clean by producing energy from the sun, wind, the earth's heat, flowing water in our canals and even
decomposing garbage in landfills. As a customer, you can support the use of clean, renewable energy by
making an additional payment on your monthly electricity bill.
Renewable energy is cleaner than electricity generated from traditional sources.
Electricity is produced using technologies that help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels,
preserve precious natural resources and improve air quality.
Is the program available to all SRP customers?
Yes, whether you live in a house or an apartment, or if you own a business, you can sign up for
EarthWise Energy.
Is EarthWise Energy certified as a green energy program by any certification agencies?
Currently there are no certification agencies for green power in Arizona. SRP will work cooperatively
to meet any certification requirements that might arise in the future.
How will my community benefit from my decision to choose renewable power?
Electricity generated by all sources (nuclear, coal, hydro, natural gas and renewable energy) is fed
into the power grid supplying electric power to everyone in our community. As more renewable power
is supplied to the grid, the need for power from other sources is diminished. In this way, everyone
benefits from renewable energy. In addition, everyone benefits from the conservation of our natural
resources and the generation of clean energy.
Why should customers support this program?
SRP customers have asked for the option to purchase renewable energy. We developed the EarthWise
Energy program as an answer to their request. This project is an important step toward developing
local renewable energy resources.
How much more does EarthWise Energy cost?
EarthWise Energy is available in $3 increments added to your regular monthly electricity bill.
A customer can choose to participate for an additional $3 per month, $6 per month, $9 month and so on.
Why does renewable energy cost more?
The technologies required to convert solar and other renewable energy sources to electricity is more
expensive than traditional fossil fuel technologies. SRP hopes to reduce these costs by increasing the
demand for renewable energy over time.
Does SRP offer rebates if I install solar equipment at my home?
Yes. Some customers may qualify for the SRP EarthWise Solar
Energy program, which offers incentives for the installation of photovoltaic and solar water heating
equipment.
How does my $3 make a difference?
All EarthWise Energy funds received will be used to build new solar projects in our community. For example, we are
currently building a 10kW solar electric system on the roof of the Native Species Recovery Center at the
Phoenix Zoo. Other upcoming projects include a 10kW solar electric system on the Desert Botanical Garden's
administration building as well as on the roof of the Maryvale YMCA.
Is my participation in the program tax deductible?
Your EarthWise Energy participation does not qualify as a tax deduction.
Is the electricity generated by renewable sources sent to EarthWise Energy participants?
The electricity generated by the renewable sources will be fed into SRP's grid, which delivers power to
all electricity customers. Because of the way electric distribution systems are interconnected, it is not
possible to trace the renewable-generated electrons and send them directly to your home. However,
the renewable energy produced by SRP's renewable electric generating stations is used to displace
electricity generated by fossil fuel.
Will power to my home or business depend on the renewable energy being produced?
No, you will continue to receive the same reliable electric service you currently receive from SRP's
electricity supply system. The reliability of your electric service will not change if you join EarthWise
Energy.

If I sign up, when will the charges appear on my SRP bill and what will my bill look
like?
Expect to see the $3 EarthWise Energy charges on your next electric bill. In the
itemized column on the right side of your electric bill, you will see EarthWise Energy. The dollar amount
will reflect the level of support you have chosen ($3, $6, or $9, etc.) This amount will be in addition to
the regular monthly electricity charges.
How can I stay informed about what's happening with the EarthWise Energy program and how my money is being used?
Participants will receive the SRP Environmental News newsletter, which includes information about the
program, as well as other information concerning environmental issues in the greater Phoenix area.
Information will also be posted on this Web site.
What if I move?
If you move within SRP's service area, you will need to re-sign up. If you move
outside SRP's service area, you will no longer be able to participate in the EarthWise Energy program.
