What is SRP doing to manage energy and costs?

Energy conservation and efficiency
- CFL and LED bulbs are used at SRP facilities.
- Photovoltaic (solar) electric systems have been installed on some SRP facilities and will be installed on all new buildings.
- The temperature in most SRP facilities is controlled by an automated system or programmable thermostats.
- Cooling at 90% of SRP facilities is provided by industrial chilled water systems, which are more efficient for large buildings.
- Employees are asked to shut off task lighting and desk fans, which reduces electricity and heat.
Landscaping
- Low water-use landscaping has been planted at all SRP facilities.
Recycling and paper reduction
- SRP recycled 495 tons of paper, cardboard, plastic, newspapers and aluminum cans in fiscal year 2008.
- Most print jobs are double-sided.
- We offer customers the option of receiving their electric bill electronically. This reduces paper, ink and postages costs as well as energy used for printing.
Investment recovery
- SRP recouped more than $9.5 million in fiscal year 2008 from sales of retired vehicles and equipment, salvaged distribution transformers and processed copper and aluminum through its investment recovery program.
Transportation
- Biodiesel fuel has been used in SRP's fleet since 1999. Biodiesel is made from soybean oil or used vegetable oil and produces significantly less emission than diesel fuels. Fryer oil is picked up from SRP's employee cafeterias and used to make biodiesel fuel (about 400 pounds every 12 weeks).
