Sealing leaky ducts could save $200 a year

Ducts carry air from the central heater or air conditioner to each part of the home and back again. In a typical house, about 20% of the air that moves through the duct system is lost because of leaks or improper installation. Fixing duct leaks can save you $200 or more in annual energy costs and improve the comfort of your home.

If your home has leaky ducts, you may notice:

  • Extremely high energy bills during the hottest and coldest months
  • Rooms that are stuffy or difficult to keep cool or warm

SRP wants to help you identify and improve the efficiency of your cooling and heating system. The Duct Test and Repair Rebate Program offers:

  • 75% of the cost of duct testing (up to $75)
  • 75% of the cost of qualified duct repairs (up to $175)

Testing and repair costs

For a typical home, testing can range from $100 to $150 and repairs normally cost $300 to $500. Houses and equipment can vary; therefore, actual costs may be higher or lower. In the example below, we've calculated an average customer's out-of-pocket costs (including the SRP rebate) for testing and repair services.
