Seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER): measures how efficiently a central cooling system (air conditioner or heat pump) will operate over an entire cooling season.

Energy efficiency ratio (EER): measures how efficiently a cooling system will operate when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level (usually 95º F).

Heating season performance factor (HSPF): measures how efficiently heat pumps will operate in their heating mode over an entire heating season.

SRP PowerWise Cool Cash Rebate

Simmering desert temperatures make your cooling system the number one summertime energy user in your home. If you have been putting off replacing an older unit, now's the time to act. SRP PowerWise™ is offering a rebate for the installation of new high-efficiency systems. Cool Cash Rebate

Correct sizing of the system and proper installation are critical to ensuring your new system operates at peak efficiency and provides maximum comfort. As part of this program, SRP is requiring contractors to conduct an industry standard unit sizing calculation and to verify that airflow and refrigerant charge are within manufacturer's specifications. By participating in the SRP PowerWise Cool Cash Rebate program, you can be confident you have a properly sized and installed system.

How to participate

To participate in the program, you must:

  • Be a current SRP residential electric customer with an existing home (new construction is ineligible)
  • Replace an existing central heat pump or central air conditioner with a new high-efficiency central heat pump or central air conditioner (window units and new construction do not qualify) with minimum efficiency ratings as listed in the table below.
  • Have the qualified system installed by a licensed contractor between May 1, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2008. Window units do not qualify. Both indoor air handler and condensing units must be replaced on split systems.

Qualifying systems

Equipment Configuration Minimum SEER Minimum EER Minimum HSPF (Heat pumps only) Rebate
Package Systems 14 11 8 $250
15 11 8 $425
16 11 8 $600

Applying for the rebate

With the assistance of your participating contractor, submit to SRP a completed rebate application, a dated copy of the paid invoice and a copy of the sizing calculation worksheet. Your contractor should have the application form with complete terms and conditions. All applications must be postmarked by Nov. 30, 2008 and mailed to:

  • SRP PowerWise Cool Cash Rebate Program
  • 2702 N. Third St.
  • Suite 2020
  • Phoenix, AZ 85004

Upon request by SRP, allow SRP or our agent to inspect the installed unit to verify compliance with all incentive program requirements.

In addition to the SRP PowerWise Cool Cash Rebate, new systems that were installed by the end of 2007 may be eligible for a $300 Federal energy-efficiency tax credit. Ask your contractor for additional information, or visit irs.gov for complete details from the Internal Revenue Service.
