SRP PowerWise Cool Roof Business Solutions rebate

Are cooling costs getting you down? Are you in the market for a new roof? If you answered "yes" to both questions, then a cool roof might be in your future. A cool roof system is a cost-effective solution that addresses rising energy expenses.

Rebate offer

SRP is offering the SRP PowerWise™ Cool Roof Business Solutions rebate of $0.05 per sq. ft. of cool roof installed, up to a maximum payment of $5,000 per customer.

A cool roof system utilizes specially manufactured, light-colored materials to reflect the sun's rays, resulting in roof surface temperature staying within a few degrees of ambient air temperature. A cool roof can maintain its temperature within about 10 degrees of ambient temperature while a standard, darker roof can be as much as 70 degrees hotter.

Roofing technology

The actual technology consists of a broad range of applications which includes:

  • Adding spray polyurethane foam (with roof coating)
  • Roof coatings (elastomeric and cementitious)
  • Single-ply white membranes
  • Painted metal surfaces.

Lifetime maintenance costs

In addition to delivering energy benefits, cool roofs deliver savings on lifetime maintenance costs:

  • A conventional built-up hot roof must have a new top layer added about every 10 years at a cost between $1.20 and $2.10 per sq. ft.
  • Beyond three layers, the weight of the roof exceeds the maximum loading allowed on the trusses requiring that all the layers be removed and a new top layer installed
  • A cool roof, however, can receive many thin, light-weight re-coatings over several 10-year periods without exceeding weight limits on roof trusses
  • The material costs also are similar - about $1.20 to $2.15 per sq. ft. The incremental costs for a cool roof can vary between $0.05 and $0.10 per square foot, depending on the technology applied.

Customer benefits

Cool roofs provide the greatest benefits when one or more of the following conditions exist:

  • High air-conditioning use and the cooling season dominates energy use
  • Little to no existing insulation in the ceiling or roof
  • Building is scheduled for major re-roofing or roof maintenance.

Five-step program process

  1. Download and complete the rebate application (PDF)
  2. Read the terms and conditions and complete application in full. Sign and date the application.
  3. Mail the completed rebate application and signed agreement to SRP at the following address:

  4. Retain a copy of all pages of the completed Rebate Application, and contract/PO for installation for your records.

Funding for this program is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. rebate funds will be reserved for a commercial customer once the application is approved by SRP. Payment will be made to the commercial customer upon SRP's confirmation that the installation matches what was approved within the application.
