Keeping your pool clean and energy-efficient

If you own a pool, your pool pump is the second largest electric user in your household. Want to keep your pool sparkling and still be energy efficient? Paddock Pool Construction Co. offers these tips:

  • Proper water chemistry is essential to prevent corrosion of your pool equipment and interior finishes. Keep the pH between 7.2 and 7.4, and the acid and alkaline levels will be correct.
  • Keep your pool filtration system clean. Otherwise you will need to run your system longer and it will run at higher back pressures in the pump, consuming more electricity.
  • Determine how long you should run your system. The length of time that you run your pool's filtration system each day depends on your equipment, the environment, and the time of year. To determine how long you should run your system during the summer, start by running it for 10 hours each day. Observe it for three days. If the pool is clean and clear, reduce the run time by one hour and once again observe it for three days. Once you've reduced the run time and the pool is no longer clean and clear, increase the run time by one hour, and repeat the process until it is once again clear.

Time-of-Use brings additional savings

SRP Time-of-Use is an optional price plan that enables you to pay less for electricity during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

By installing a timer, your pool filtration system can run when energy prices are the lowest.
