Education partnerships and sponsorships
Each year, SRP contributes funds, scholarships, in-kind services and volunteer assistance to
educational programs throughout Arizona.
From 4-H programs to university improvements; from basic school supplies to cutting-edge science
and technology competitions, SRP invests in education initiatives that brighten the outlook for Arizona students.
Following are some of our recent collaborations with partners in education. For a summary of schools
and programs that received corporate contributions from SRP during the last fiscal year, please see the
SRP Community Involvement Report.
SRP partnered with the Flinn Foundation and TGen in November 2005 to present a half-day seminar for educational administrators. The "Translating TGen 2005: A Symposium for Educators" session explored the future of biosciences and its implications for Arizona educators and students.
"Bioscience has proven to be at the forefront in Arizona's future, both educationally and economically," said Karen Fisch, SRP Manager of Community Outreach. "It's important to SRP, as one of the Valley's largest employers, to explore what that will mean to Arizona and our education system."
For more information about Arizona high school bioscience education, including strategies of Arizona's bioscience roadmap and analyses of where we are now and what's next, view the "Building the Bioscience Pipeline" brochure (PDF).
SRP became a major player in providing improved teacher training opportunities statewide when it formed a
strategic partnership with the Arizona Foundation for Resource Education (AFRE).
AFRE is a non-profit, collaborative network of Arizona’s natural resource businesses and industries that
provides the state’s K-12 teachers real-world, hands-on educational programs and professional
development opportunities.
The foundation’s programs impact about 1,100 educators and about 85,000 students annually. All
professional development programs are free, and are dedicated to providing balanced, factual,
multidisciplinary coursework, firmly grounded in Arizona’s state mandated competencies, AIMS, and SAT-9.
Professional development experiences are delivered by master teachers and natural resource industry experts.
SRP will contribute information and expertise on energy and water issues, including its two-hour in-service
training seminars in water and power instruction.

SRP partnered with Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center (MATEC) to introduce students at Scottsdale's Coronado High School to the science of making semiconductors and to career opportunities in high-tech industries through a program called SEMI High Tech U, addressing the challenge of a dwindling regional high-tech work force in the face of projected double-digit job growth.
High Tech U is administered by the SEMI Foundation. Find out more about the program.
