SRP in-service for educators
SRP provides workshops and comprehensive in-service programs for Arizona educators. Our goal is to equip educators with key insights and proven classroom resources related to the water and energy industries. Educators who participate in our programs will be expertly prepared to teach students about water, electricity and renewable energy technologies.
All of SRP's in-service programs and supporting materials are available free of charge. Workshops can be scheduled throughout the school year. Please call (602) 236-2497, or send an e-mail, to arrange campus-based in-services.
SRP workshops address specific educational objectives and standards outlined by the Arizona Department of Education. See how our programs address Arizona academic standards by grade level.
The following workshops are offered by SRP:
What: Arizona Water Story in-service
Who should attend: Educators who teach grades 4-8

SRP offers an in-service primer about the desert's most precious resource. Workshop topics include central Arizona water history, water management concepts, environmental water issues and water science. Participants will receive water resource materials and a video.
What: Basics of Electricity in-service
Who should attend: Educators who teach grades 4-8
Time commitment: 2 hours
Summary: No other energy source is so much a part of our daily lives, yet more taken for granted, than electricity. This two-hour in-service features demonstrations and hands-on activities, and provides the knowledge required to teach all the salient points about basic electricity.
What: Energizer – Powering Our Future in-services
Who should attend: Educators of grades 4-6, 6-9, and 9-12. Three separate modules are available to meet the specific needs of these grades.
Time commitment: 45 minutes to 3 hours
Summary: SRP is pleased to announce its exciting new 'green power' education program, Powering Our Future. This workshop focuses on renewable energy technologies and energy conservation. We'll help you discover the boundless possibilities of the Powering Our Future web site, a comprehensive and interactive resource created especially for Arizona teachers and students. The Powering Our Future program includes complete lesson plans, as well as extensive background information for educators.
Note: In-depth implementation workshops will be offered throughout the school year at various locations. Forty-five minute to three-hour campus based in-services are available by calling (602) 236-2497.

Getting kids excited about science, while helping teachers meet state standards are the goals of this special interest group of SRP employees. Sci4Kids is comprised of SRP employees who have science backgrounds and science and technology-related careers and who volunteer their time to create a portfolio of learning modules that include practical and stimulating demonstration and activities for use in the elementary school classroom.
The first module has been developed to assist educators in understanding and teaching concepts of electricity and magnetism, and the lessons are aligned to Arizona state academic standards. SRP is pleased to provide educators with our introductory module titled Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism. The module is targeted for fourth grade teachers and students. You can download lessons and the power point program below:
By special arrangement, Sci4Kids can come out to your school to conduct presentations or in-services on electricity and magnetism. For more information about these modules, call (602) 236-2497.
Professional development and credit hours are available when you participate in our workshops.
Also, SRP is pleased to be a partner with Arizona Foundation for Research (AFRE) in providing professional development experiences for educators in the fields of water and power.
The SRP-sponsored AFRE programs are taught by master teachers and provide in-depth, balanced and multi disciplinary course work fully grounded in Arizona's state mandated competencies. For additional information about SRP-sponsored AFRE programs, please call (602) 236-4417, or visit the AFRE Web site.
