Learning Grants by SRP

Learning Grants by SRP provide a unique opportunity that allows schools, teachers and students to develop projects and programs geared toward attainment of state-mandated competencies. Specifically, the grants support innovative teaching strategies that improve student performance objectives in math and science. SRP offers a total of $125,000 for Learning Grants in math and science, with up to $5,000 available for each school site.

School eligibility

Public and private, nonprofit schools, kindergarten through grade 12, are eligible to compete for Learning Grants by SRP. All educators in metropolitan Phoenix, Pinal County, Gila County, Yavapai County, Page and St. Johns are eligible to apply.

SRP makes no distinction between public and charter schools. Educators at nonprofit private schools have exactly the same chance to receive grants but must refer to state-mandated competencies in math and science.

When and how to apply

The deadline for proposals for the 2013-14 school year was midnight March 30, 2013. Proposals submitted late will not be considered. The application period for the 2014-15 school year will open in Fall 2013.

Applications may pertain to a single grade, as well as multigrade integration. In multigrade applications, all pertinent performance objectives for each grade level must be listed.

Educators may base applications on projects, programs and/or activities that enhance learning with the object of improving student performance. Preference will be given to applications that employ a cross-curricular approach to the improvement of math, science or technology proficiency.

Evaluation criteria must be objective and quantifiable. Applications for Learning Grants by SRP are reviewed based upon the following criteria:

  1. Description
    Provide 50- to 150-words describing the project.
  2. Statement of need
    SRP's focus is on the improvement of performance objectives in math and science. What opportunity or need exists in your school environment? How will SRP's grant dollars fulfill the needs or opportunity identified in your project proposal?
  3. Project description and timeline
    Describe the components, activities and goals of your proposed project. What do you wish to accomplish? What is the timeline for the project?
  4. Student impact
    What is the potential number of students positively impacted today and in the future by the project/program? What grade levels will benefit?
  5. Innovation
    How is your proposed program/project different from others? Describe how your project is a creative approach to teaching state-mandated competencies.
  6. Budget
    How will the grant be spent? What will individual components of the program cost? Materials? Staff? Technology? Are you seeking financing from additional sources? Please itemize expenditures. No more than 25% of the budget should be used for travel, stipends or expenses related to field trips.
  7. Evaluation process
    How do you plan to evaluate the relative success of the project?
