Learning Grants by SRP
SRP has supported education initiatives for decades. We are pleased to
announce the continuation of Learning Grants by SRP.
Learning Grants by SRP provide a unique opportunity that allows schools, teachers and
students to develop projects and programs geared toward attainment of state-mandated competencies.
Specifically, the grants support innovative teaching strategies that improve student
performance objectives in math and science. SRP offers a total of $125,000 for Learning Grants in math and science, with up to $5,000 available for each school site.
Public and private, nonprofit schools, kindergarten through grade 12, are eligible to compete
for Learning Grants at SRP. All educators in Metropolitan Phoenix, Pinal County, Gila County, Yavapai County, Page and St.
Johns are eligible to apply.
SRP makes no distinction between public and charter schools. Non-profit private school educators have exactly the same chance to receive grants, but must refer to state mandated competencies in
math and science.
SRP will accept applications for 2010-11 grants from Nov. 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.

Schools that receive grants are required to deliver a financial report and objective results
summary at the end of the grant year. The report must state how the granted funds were used.
In the report, the grant recipients must evaluate the success of the project. Were goals and
objectives met? How were students impacted and how many students were impacted? What is
the potential long-range impact of the program?
The report is due June 10, 2010. If the entire grant amount has not been expended by this time,
please explain why not, and how the remaining portion of the grant will be used in the future.
In addition, SRP personnel will conduct on-site visits to review the program/project for which the grant was given.

Applications may pertain to a single grade, as well as multigrade integration. In multigrade
applications, all pertinent performance objectives for each grade level must be listed.
Educators may base applications on projects, programs and/or activities that enhance
learning with the object of improving student performance. Preference will be given to
applications that employ a cross-curricular approach to the improvement of math,
science or technology proficiency.
Evaluation criteria must be objective and quantifiable. Applications for Learning Grants by
SRP are reviewed based upon the following criteria:
-
Statement of need
How will performance objectives in math or science be improved?
What opportunity or need exists in your school environment? How will SRP's
grant dollars fulfill the needs or opportunity identified in your project proposal?
-
Project description and timeline
Describe the components, activities and goals of your proposed project. What do
you wish to accomplish? What is the timeline for the project?
-
Student impact
What is the potential number of students positively impacted by the project/program?
What grade levels will benefit?
-
Innovation
How is your proposed program/project different from others? Describe how your project
is a creative approach to teaching state-mandated competencies. How does your program
employ a cross-curricular approach to the improvement of math or science proficiency?
-
Promotion opportunities
If SRP provides funding, how do you plan to let the school-community know about SRP's
investment in your school?
-
Sustainability
How will future students benefit from this project?
-
Budget
How will the grant be spent? What will individual components of the program cost?
Materials? Staff? Are you seeking financing from additional sources? Please itemize
expenditures. Not more than 25% of the budget should be utilized for travel or field
trip-related expenses.
-
Evaluation process
How do you plan to evaluate the relative success of the project? What objective measures
will be used to assess the program's accomplishments?
