SRP VOLUNTEERS at work in the community

SRP employees, retirees, families and friends invest time, skills and resources to build stronger Arizona communities. More than 85% of SRP employees have contributed time and effort to equal more than 700,000 hours of service - averaging 3.3 volunteer hours per week.

Why SRP supports volunteerism

The SRP VOLUNTEER program provides our employees with a meaningful experience while helping viable nonprofit organizations address critical community needs. Four out of five charities rely on the helping hands of volunteers to fulfill their missions.

The nonprofit sector has experienced tremendous growth in the last decade. In Arizona alone there are almost 19,000 nonprofit agencies on file with the Arizona Corporation Commission. This expansion relies heavily on corporate volunteerism for crucial resources such as manpower and financial support.

  • Research indicates that nearly half of all agencies have had cash-flow problems over the past five years with nearly two-thirds feeling financial stress from recent government funding cuts.

In 2009, SRP employees pledged more than $1.6 million to Arizona nonprofit organizations, dramatically increasing the community's ability to meet health and human service needs across Arizona.
  • Many nonprofits struggle with limited infrastructure development and inadequate technology resources to modernize records, systems and operations.

SRP offers skill-based volunteer opportunities. Recently, an SRP employee interest group, Females in Technology, assisted Fresh Start Women's Resource Center by creating a strategic technology roadmap to help close the gaps between their current technology state and their desired technology state. This will aid the organization to better plan and manage their IT resources.
  • Many nonprofit boards lack the appropriate organizational training to effectively lead and manage.

SRP supports the many employees and retirees who serve on nonprofit boards and share their professional expertise with community organizations. These leadership contributions help to address, support and sustain vital community efforts.
