Nothing warms the heart like the smile of a child. For too many children, especially those
from low-income families, proper dental care often is unaffordable.
Nearly half of children ages 2 to 9 suffer from untreated tooth decay – a problem
that only becomes more expensive to treat later in life. As oral health is directly
related to learning, development, self -esteem and employability, the citizens of
Casa Grande decided to act. "Give Kids a Smile," sponsored by the Casa Grande
Daybreak Rotary Club, is a program that provides free dental services to needy children.
In 2008, approximately 90 Casa Grande area kids received free oral health screenings and
dental care from volunteering dentists, hygienists and dental assistants, and more than 70
children were scheduled for follow-up treatment.
SRP, whose Desert Basin Generating Station is located in Casa Grande, supports this oral
health initiative, knowing these bright smiles represent even brighter futures.
