Nowhere are summers more suited for fun in the water than in Arizona. However, sadly, not a
summer goes by without multiple incidents of children drowning, usually due to a lack of adult
supervision. Roughly three-quarters of all child drownings involve children under three years of age.
For several years, through our Safety Connection™ program,
SRP has made pool safety a priority among its outreach efforts in an attempt to educate parents on
the importance of closely monitoring children near water. This year, we also helped strengthen the
swimming skills of Valley children by supporting Parent - Child Aquatics, an introduction to
swimming lessons where the parents play an active role in teaching their children the fundamentals
of water safety and swimming.
Reducing drowning deaths is an ongoing goal and SRP is all too glad to join with families to make
Arizona summers as safe as they are enjoyable.
