Time Well Spent
African American Cultural Committee
As the utility industry's workforce ages, SRP is seeing an increasing number of retirements each year. Various strategies are in place to help new leaders in the company emerge. Among the most promising efforts are SRP's Employee Interest Groups (EIG), which allow employees to network, learn and share knowledge.
The African American Cultural Committee (AACC) is one such EIG, and one that goes beyond simple networking. The Committee was formed to increase awareness about the African American community within SRP and educate employees about the African American culture, history and contributions made to society. Its activities include providing financial and volunteer support to local nonprofit organizations, such as the Phoenix Birthing Project, an African American maternal and child health agency. Working with nonprofits is just one way of developing leadership skills.
Ultimately, EIGs like the AACC are a win-win, helping our employees become stronger leaders while strengthening SRP and giving back to the community.
