Ground broken for Phoenix Expansion Project
A significant project is underway that will be the source of new natural gas supplies for Desert Basin and Santan generating stations.
Ground was broken for the Transwestern Pipeline Co.'s Phoenix Expansion Project, a 258-mile, 36-inch natural gas pipeline system extending from Transwestern's mainline in Yavapai County to delivery points in the Phoenix area.
"SRP is investigating new natural-gas generating resources and this new capability for gas delivery to Central Arizona will be an important addition to the energy infrastructure," said Randy Dietrich, Manager, Fuels.
"Transwestern proposed such a project and worked for a number of years to convince the Phoenix area customers, or shippers as they are known, to sign up for specified levels of service. Of the Phoenix area shippers, APS and SRP committed to the largest amount of business," Dietrich said.
On Nov. 15, 2007, Transwestern received the FERC certificate needed to build the pipeline. Phoenix Expansion Project pipeline for the Palo Verde area is expected to be in service this summer and pipeline to serve Desert Basin and Santan generating stations should be complete by October.
