SRP share: 29% of Unit 1 and Unit 2

Description: Three coal-fired generating units.

Capacity: 1,283 megawatts from three units. Each unit is rated at about 428 MW; SRP receives 124 MW each from Unit 1 and Unit 2.

Plant construction: Construction on Units 1 and 2 began in September 1974. Unit 2 was completed in November 1979; Unit 1 was completed in 1981, and Unit 3 was completed in 1984.

Construction costs: Units 1 and 2: $700 million; Unit 3: $510 million.

Environmental controls costs: $285 million.

Environmental control equipment:

  • Electrostatic precipitator on Units 1 & 2 to control fly ash.
  • Wet limestone scrubbers on Units 1 & 2 to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2).
  • Fabric filter "baghouse" on Units 3 to control particulate matter.
  • Dry limestone scrubber on Unit 3 to remove SO2.
